Below is important information regarding city services, events and how to get involved in your new community. 

Services
Refuse/Recycle Pick–Up Schedule: Refuse and recycling is picked up weekly (Monday - Thursday).
Holidays generally delay trash pick-up by one day. Altered pick-up schedules will be included in City
newsletters and social media channels. To find your neighborhood’s specific pick up day and detailed

City Bags/City Tags/Recycle Bins: The City will not pick up refuse unless City bags are used or City tags are
attached to each bag or to the handle of each trash container. Bags and tags are available for purchase at: City
Hall, Meijer and Ric’s Food Center. Tags are available at GreenTree Cooperative Grocery. If you do not have a
blue recycle bin one can be purchased at City Hall.

Material Recovery Facility (Recycling Center) is located at 4208 E. River Road. They are open Monday –
Saturday. 

Brush Pick-Up/Leaf Collection/Christmas Tree Collection/Snow Removal: Guidelines for these
services are outlined here.

Online Bill Pay: Electronic payment options for utility bills, tax bills, parking tickets, housing licenses, building
permits and brush chipping are available. For more information click here.    

Division of Public Safety: The Mt. Pleasant Police and Fire Departments are committed to serving with
pride, integrity and compassion. In addition to responding to service calls and completing more than 100 hours
of training each year, they sponsor a variety of events, services and programs. A few examples include:

  • Vacation Security Checks
  • Prescription Drug Drop-Off Program
  • Youth Police Academy, and Self Defense Tactics Courses.

The Neighborhood Resource Unit (NRU) explores new community-oriented programs,
revamps existing programs, and works closely with neighborhood associations so
neighborhoods remain desirable.

Parking: Overnight street parking is allowed throughout the City year-round, except for the
Downtown area. Downtown street parking is prohibited from 4 – 6 a.m. year-round. When a snow
emergency is declared, all cars must be removed from the street.

Parks: The City of Mt. Pleasant has 12 parks which include 394 acres and 5.6 miles of trails. Our parks feature
the Chippewa River as well as a Splash Park, Island Park Arts Pavilion, baseball/softball fields, volleyball , pickle
ball and tennis courts, playgrounds, a skate park, an ice rink in the winter, and shuffleboard courts. There are
also a variety of pavilions available to rent for special occasions.

Recreation: Our Recreation Department hosts a variety of youth and adult team sports. Other special events
include Christmas Celebration, Daddy-Daughter Date Night, Beat the Heat(June - August), which feature a
wide variety of free activities for kids, Movies by Moonlight – an outdoor movie series in August, and two Farmers’
Markets which take place every Thursday and Saturday from May – October.

Mt. Pleasant Municipal Airport (KMOP): Our airport serves as an integral hub for economic growth, enabling convenient
accessibility for athletic teams, corporate and entertainment business as well as general aviation.
