Building Safety

The Building Safety department is responsible for administering and enforcing the provisions of the State construction code throughout the City. Our staff works closely with the Isabella County department to issue permits and inspect all electrical, plumbing and mechanical installation that may also be part of your project.

CODES IN EFFECT
  • 2015 Michigan Building Code/reference standards went into effect April 20, 2017.
  • 2009 ICC/ANSI A117.1 accessibility standard went into effect April 20, 2017.
  • 2015 ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1-2013 went into effect September 20, 2017. (Commercial)
  • 2015 Michigan Rehabilitation Code for Existing Buildings went into effect December 13, 2016.
  • 2017 Michigan Plumbing Code went into effect September 15, 2021.
  • 2012 International Fire Code with Appendices went into effect May 11, 2016. (Adopted by the City of MP.)
  • 2015 International Fire Code as Referenced under the Building Code(s).
  • 2017 Michigan Electrical Code went into effect January 4, 2019. (NEC)
  • 2015 Michigan Mechanical Code went into effect April 12, 2017.
  • 2015 Michigan Residential Code went into effect February 8, 2016. (Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical)
  • 2015 Michigan Energy Conservation Code went into effect September 20, 2017. (Residential)
