Voter and Election Information

The City Clerk's office conducts all Federal, State and local elections held in the City and is responsible for the entire voting process, including; registering qualified voters, maintaining the voter registration files, hiring and training all election workers under their control, issuing absentee ballots for elections, keeping abreast of, and implementing, any new election laws, and ensuring the integrity of the voting process.


2020 Election Schedule

Presidential Primary Election
  • Election Date: Tuesday, March 10, 2020
  • Last day to register to vote by mail:  Monday, February 24, 2020
    Individuals who register to vote within the 14-day period immediately preceding an election must appear in person at their city or township clerk’s office and provide proof of residency.
State Primary Election
  • Election Date: Tuesday, August 4, 2020
  • Last day to register to vote by mail:  Monday, July 20, 2020
    Individuals who register to vote within the 14-day period immediately preceding an election must appear in person at their city or township clerk’s office and provide proof of residency.
State General Election
  • Election Date: Tuesday, November 3, 2020
  • Last day to register to vote by mail:  Monday, October 19, 2020
    Individuals who register to vote within the 14-day period immediately preceding an election must appear in person at their city or township clerk’s office and provide proof of residency.
  • City Commission Openings: Two (2) seats available on the City Commission for the three year term of January 1, 2021 – December 31, 2023. Commissioners’ William Joseph and Kristin LaLonde terms are expiring on December 31, 2020.
  • City Commission Packet Filing:  Monday, June 22 through 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21. Packets are available at the City Clerk’s Office, 320 W. Broadway St., Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858

Due to the passage of the statewide ballot proposal 18-3 in November, all eligible and registered voters in Michigan may now request an absent voter ballot without providing a reason.

City residents can determine the voting precinct in which they vote by checking their voter registration card or calling the City Clerk's Office at (989) 779-5361. View a map of the precincts.
